Rough skin? using dead sea products
Rough skin is caused by an accumulation of dead skin cells on the skin surface. These cells are naturally eliminated from the body by a sloughing process in which the new cells push the old cells towards the skin’s surface. The old cells slough off, leaving the new cells exposed. However, the sloughing process is not always successful, and the surface may remain rough and without vitality. Exposure to sun is an additional cause for rough skin.
Rough skin can also be caused by a disease called keratosis pilaris, in which sandpaper-like bumps on arms and outer thighs and other hairy body parts may develop. This condition is benign but bothersome and cosmetically unattractive. It is sometimes treated by local steroid creams.
Keratosis pilaris is apparently caused by an accumulation of keratin on skin surrounding hair follicles and is most common among people suffering form acne or atypical dermatitis. Genetic tendencies seem to influence this condition, and it is more common in children and adolescents. Fortunately, keratosis pilaris usually disappears spontaneously in early adulthood, without treatment.
In conclusion, rough skin is a cosmetic condition, without serious medical implications. Rough skin can be sloughed off by using an exfoliating preparation, or by gently scrubbing the affected areas.
